Antique Railway Signal Box Instrument, North East Railway

A non-pegging telegraph block instrument from a signal box on the North Eastern Railway, as used by signalmen to continuously monitor traffic on the railway line thereby ensuring safety by allowing only one train on the line at any one time. With brass'Up Line' plate, stamped NER to the base, makers mark embossed to internal frame and handwritten with the name of the city of'Hull' to the inside. Quite an early example, NER having been in existence from 1854 until 1923, at which time it was amalgamated with other railways to from the London and North Eastern Railway.
