Schag was a very talented artist that painted a small number of dramatic and accurate artwork subjects for Monogram and Revell Models throughout the 80's. I can't find too much info on the artist, so maybe someone will have. The subject is a North American F-86F-10 Sabre Jet 39th FIS, 51st FIG no. 512897 In a dogfight at dusk during the Korean war sometime in1953.
The North American F-86 Sabre, sometimes called the Sabrejet, is a transonic jet fighter. Produced by North American Aviation, the Sabre is best known as the United States' first swept wing fighter that could counter the similarly-winged Soviet Mig-15 in high-speed dogfights over the skies of the Korean War (19501953). Considered one of the best and most important fighter aircraft in that war, the F-86 is also rated highly in comparison with fighters of other eras.This paint scheme represents the F-86E Sabre of the 51st Fighter Intercept Wing as flown by Lt. This is one of the most recognizable paints of the Korean War. He painted this now iconic symbol after shooting down a Mig-15 that had a dragon on the side.
