This sign came from the AB cars of the BMT subway, which were built by a few different builders American Car & Foundry and Pressed Steel - between 1914 and 1924. There were over 950 built. The last of them were retired and scrapped in the 1970s.

A few still exist as part of museum collections, including the New York City Transit Museum and the Shore Line Trolley Museum in East Haven, CT. This particular signbox came from car 2695 which was built by Pressed Steel Car Company in 1920. Each car had two "signboxes" at each side of the car. Each signbox housed a full rollsign. The one on the bottom displayed the route, while the one on the top displayed the destination.

This rollsign box measures 18 inches wide by about 27 inches long &. Route Readings include the following. WEST END L'C'L. SEA BEACH L'C'L. BROADWAY B'KLYN L'C'L. Destination Readings include the following. VIA TUNNEL THRU NASSAU LOOP VIA BRIDGE TO B'KLYN. VIA BRIDGE THRU NASSAU LOOP VIA TUNNEL TO B'KLYN.

This sign is in excellent condition. Box works perfectly for its age. Painted in the speckle green scheme. Sign shows readings front & back.

Some original dirt included at no extra charge. Please carefully review the photos. Great for bar or restaurant, dorm room, den, etc. Truly a museum quality antique. Own a piece of New York history!
