1930-1940 R-1/9 New York Subway Car Exterior Door Guard Light Box

A New York Subway Car Exterior Door Guard Light Box from a New York Subway IND (Independent Subway) R-1/9 Subway Car. This item came from the R 1-9 cars of the IND subway, which were built in many waves by a few different builders American Car & Foundry, Pullman, and Pressed Steel - between 1930 and 1940. There were over 1800 built.

The last of them were retired and scrapped in the 1970s. A few still exist as part of museum collections, including the New York City Transit Museum and the Shore Line Trolley Museum in East Haven, CT. These were located on the exterior of the subway car. If lit indicated that a door was not closed & locked. Was bead blasted to bare metal & repainted.

Lenses have slight scratches from years of use. Please see photos for condition. There are NO interior fittings or sockets. This item is 5 inches by 4 1/4 inches by 2 inches.
