As a "Long Distance Railway Set" this model. Was supplied to the London & North Eastern Railway and fitted with a distinctive enamel instruction plate. Typically used to provide communication between a number of Signal Boxes and Stations using an omnibus or shared circuit. An individual location was called by ringing a code using the left hand button. It was important to check that the line was not already in use before ringing.

The right hand button made a direct call to the Control Office by reversing the polarity of the ringing circuit. This instrument is in unrestored ex railway service condition as seen in the images. The original bakelite handset is complete and undamaged and whilst the cotton covered cord shows some wear the conductors appear undamaged. The remains of the GEC General Electric Company transfer is visible below the enamel plate. Housed in a mahogany case measuring 315mm high x 165mm wide, it weighs 2.78 kgs.

Untested but the wiring and internal components are all present and undamaged. Signal Box Wooden Cased Wall Telephone with Enamel instruction plate" is in sale since Sunday, December 5, 2021.
