Egg box would have been used to transport fresh eggs around the country by road or rail. These boxes are now scarce, and it is in "original" condition. It is a lovely piece of social history and so evocative of the time. The original black writing to the lid and sides has faded a little in places but still has a fair colour and is still legible.
The handle and catch are well attached, but there is some surface rust. The wood has gained a lovely depth of colour and patina over the years, however, there are the usual scuffs, marks, scratches and chips that you would expect from years of use. The hinges and wire have some surface surface rust too. Unfortunately, the interior is missing. I have tried to show the condition in the pictures.
It measures 36 cm (14 1/4 inches) across the front and it is 33 cm (13 inches) deep and it is 40 cm (15 3/4 inches) high. Please note this is on the UK site and listed in GB pounds.
